Beauty and the Beast of Propaganda

Meet Danielle Roth-Avnery, the not-so-average mouthpiece in a world of Bismuths, Eldad Yanivs, and Bardugos. Unlike those lads, she’s got something to show for her looks. But is her appearance a blessing or a curse?

Now, we're all about not judging a book by its cover, but let's be real here – Danielle Roth-Avnery is really beautiful. She made her debut in the limelight of “Beauty and the Nerd”, a reality TV show where her looks stole the show. Sure, she might have also won the national shooting championship (in sports), but the spotlight was all on her beauty. Talk about a double-edged sword.

So, let’s not downplay her impressive accomplishments, shall we?

Roth-Avnery was a commentator on the 2008 Olympic shooting competition for the Israeli Sports Channel; She then served as an editor and reporter for ‘Israel Hayom’ and as a news presenter for Channel 20 (AKA 14). However, when she appeared on Channel 12 as a panelist for the ‘Ulpan Shishi’ talk show – it was hard to not be reminded of the “beauty” who once said on prime time that “the Second Temple was destroyed in 1967”.

Now, we get it, good looks can open doors; hot people generally have it easier in life. But Danielle Roth-Avnery isn't just another TV face; she's a commentator by day and a Right-wing spokesperson in disguise – you won't need a magnifying glass to see it. She's the voice of Netanyahu and the neo-conservatives, regularly repeating that “it was a democratic election!” while subtly insinuating that the masses protesting the judicial overhaul were just looking for some fun on the weekend. And she didn't stop there.

In the grand scheme of things, Roth-Avnery is just joining the ranks of others like Boaz Bismuth, Yaakov Bardugo, or Eldad Yaniv (you know, the guy famous for his political acrobatics), all of whom aren't exactly doing wonders for the journalistic profession. But the sheer vitriol and insults that were thrown her way, exceeded any standard of decency.

So, what's the lesson here, you ask?

Well, beauty can be your trump card if you've got something substantial to say. But if your words are nothing but a stale repetition of the same old talking points, then beauty can become a curse (“pretty and stupid” or worse, “pretty and evil”), a dagger in the hand of your foes, especially if they’re male.

And a small piece of advice for our macho audience out there: if you're going to criticize a woman, be it your coworker or a talking head on TV, leave the misogyny at the door, OK? We can all aim to be a little better than that.
